The creators explain the lack of romance options in “Avowed”. The developers of Avowed will only allow playing as a human or elf, and there will be no romantic options with companions. However, with the new game from Obsidian Entertainment, it has long been known that it will not follow the path set by Larian’s work, and players will only choose one of the two races for the main character. In the game, players could choose from six basic races and several “subspecies”.
So, why did “Avowed” seem to offer a much more modest choice than both parts of “PoE”? The first reason is related to the story of Avowed. The player character will come from the Aedyr Empire, mainly inhabited by humans and elves. The choice of another race would be somewhat strange, and the developers could have a problem adjusting many dialogues or even the entire storyline to this.
The second justification is related to gameplay. The different races of Eora differ in physiology, including height. As almost the entire game is played from a first-person perspective, the developers adjust all elements to the “capsule” of the player character, including the hit system and the position of enemies relative to the hero. Nevertheless, the director believes that the team would have to “really get involved” for such threads to be not only engaging but also for their course to be in line with the character of the romancing characters in building well-thought-out relationships with our companions.
I am personally a fan of adding such an option [romancing the hero with companions – ed. ], but I think that if you are going to do it, you have to really get involved and give it your all to realize it in a way that is faithful to the character but also creates engaging experiences for the player. Therefore, we will not do this in the context of “Avowed,” but I wouldn’t say never. This material is not a sponsored article.
